Longjing is famous all across China for the "Dragon well" green tea cultivated on its green hills. A park is dedicated to the refined tea culture and its history in which we were asked to design a tea house. Facing an outdoor rather kitsch theatre stage (the theme park is not as "refined" as the tea...), our site was located on a series of steps on top of an existing buried building. We proposed to build a long bridge floating on top of these steps that would rest on two walls containing accesses and a kitchen supplying tea to the ground steps space.

While covering and shading half of the outdoor theatre seatings, the bridge permitted the whole tea house to be used either as a balcony overlooking the theatre or as a long belvedere facing the beautiful Longjing valley on the other side. The tea house is perforated by light wells crossing from ceiling to floor that generate the layout of tables without the use of screens or walls.
